Get the Right Brushes!

A crisp, precise cat eye starts with the brush, so if you don’t already have these in your kit, make sure to add them:

  • Flat Definer Brush. You’ll need something that will allow you to line the lower lash line, and a flat definer brush is perfect for the job.

We like this one from Sigma Beauty:

  • Angled Liner Brush. For getting a precise base line drawn, you’ll need a decent angled liner brush. Many double up and use them for eyebrow sculpting, too (just make sure you clean between uses!)

Here’s one from Beauty Junkies:

  • Bent Eyeliner Brush. Thanks to the extra fine tip and the bend at the tip, you can really hone in on those small, tight details.

This one from Bdellium Tools works great:

Some of you may opt for the liquid eyeliner that comes with a super fine eyeliner brush already, so you may or may not need this one.

If you plan to use a gel liner, then you’ll need these three brushes. If you’re using the liquid liner that comes with a fine tip detailing pen, you might not need the brushes. Sometimes the ones they come with aren’t very good, so you might need to purchase one separately anyways.

The angled brush is great because you can use it on eyebrows and later try a gel liner if you end up buying one. A staple item in your make up kit!

Branch out – There’s More Than Just Black Eyeliner!

So many of the lovely cat eye pics you see out there are designed with black eyeliner, but why not switch it up a bit by changing the color?

  • Brown. If you love the cat eye but don’t want such a bold look, try using brown liner instead. You can still design the cat eye shape but the overall effect will be a tad more subtle.

We can totally see you pairing the brown liner with some glittery earth tone shadows, too. Shades of green, copper or gold.

  • Charcoal. If you have brown eyes, then a lovely charcoal liner paired with the cat eye design will help your eyes pop even more.
  • Navy. Those of you with blue eyes might want to mix it up by using a navy liner. It will compliment your eyes well.

Top Cat Eye Tips

Once you’ve found a product you like and that works well on your skin, you still have to master the cat eye!

From the numerous tutorials we’ve seen out there, we found these to be the most useful tips:

  • Don’t pull your skin tight, it will throw off the alignment of the wing on each eye.
  • The angles are important, so make sure you use something straight (maybe another brush) to help you achieve an even look on both eyes (you don’t want one wing to be angled higher/lower than the other!)

Top 3 Best Eyeliner for Cat Eye Reviews

1. L’Oreal Paris Infallible Lacquer Eyeliner

One thing that surprises a lot of people about this gel is the brush! Since you may not always want to use this lacquer liner to create a cat eye design, the little brush it comes with is nice for those times when you just want a subtle line along the lashes.

This says 24H on the packaging and we must say, it really does live up to this. Once you put it on, it stays on. No faded wing tips or faded lash lines. A crisp, bold cat eye design all day (or all night) long!

We also like that it dries quickly so it you don’t smudge as you continue applying.

This one isn’t too expensive and it is probably the best eyeliner for cat eye for those of you who are looking to balance quality and price.

2. NYX Cosmetics Collection Noir Liquid Liner

If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option and you like using liquid liner pens, then try this one from NYX to complete your cat eye look.

This is great for the cat eye and it stays on once you apply it. The lines are sharp, too!

One thing that does make this a little trickier to use is the fact that the brush is that the bristles are flexible. This means that it will move around more as you’re drawing, so if you’ll want to move extra slowly with this one.

3. MAC Fluidline Eye Liner Gel Blacktrack

MAC is the more expensive option, but if you’re serious about perfecting the cat eye look and you want a quality liner, then this one won’t let you down.

It is smudge proof, it doesn’t dry out from us (opening and closing the jar can dry out the lower quality products but this one maintains its creamy consistency!)

Make sure you have your own professional brushes to use with it!
